Innovative virtual tour of the Avesnois Ecomuseum
This Thursday, November 10, the service dedicated to the digital heritage of the Polytechnic University Hauts-de-France offers students from universities members of the EUNICE alliance an immersive and unique experience.
Diving into the metaverse
The virtual tour of the Avesnois Ecomuseum in Fourmies will take place on the softwareVecos (Virtual Education Collaborative System), the first metaverse entirely dedicated to education. The UPHF department in charge of digital heritage development, led by Makram Mestiri, has worked to create avirtual twin of the museum and its adjoining street, in which participants will be able to move around using an avatar - all in virtual reality.
Students wishing to take part in the experience will have the choice to connect via their smartphone (Android), PC or virtual or augmented reality headset, for an even more immersive experience.
Guided and commented tour
Each participant, thanks to his avatar, will be able to move at will in the scripted virtual space and discover the many objects that the museum has. This visit will be all the more enriching as it will be commented live by students in Master at the Polytechnic University Hauts-de-France, eager to promote regional heritage. Several sessions will be organized, from 8 to 10 pm, this Thursday, November 10.
A world first
This technological feat makes the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France the first university to have recourse to the metaverse and to use it to take a museum across borders, live. This event is part of a series of actions carried out as part of EUNICE Weeks 2022 taking place from October 20 to November 24, an initiative of the European University EUNICE and offering numerous cultural, sports and educational activities.
